In the case of the Cockle Bay Walkway Restoration Project, stream restoration is being carried out to assist native fish making their way up stream from the sea and to slow the velocity of water in heavy rain. This will also help prevent erosion of the stream banks.

To do this we have placed rocks in the stream bed creating what is known as ‘Fish Ladders’. These mini dams also provide deeper pools which stay cool and provide habitat for the fish.  Suitable native plants are also being planted along the stream banks as part of the Restoration Project, for example, a native reed or jointed rush called oi oi.
